Water supply restored
Water supply restored
DH News Service, Bangalore:
Bangaloreans heaved a sigh of relief on Thursday as the water supply shutdown period was cut short and water was back in the taps from 6 pm in most affected areas.
Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprise Limited (NICE) blamed the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) for a miscommunication that left the public prepare for a four-day water shutdown.
However, BWSSB chairperson Latha Krishna Rao refused to respond to this charge.
Another official said that though the shutdown period for water was announced as four days, they were able to restore water connection within 48 hours due to absence of rains on Wednesday and Thursday and the work undertaken on a war-footing with 80 workers.
“Work related to the pipeline at Channasandra was completed by 11 am on Wednesday. However, the pumping of water from the 100-km distance of T K Halli required six more hours and so by 6 pm, the water supply was restored,” a source said. BTM Layout, HAL and ITPL have already started receiving water, the source said.
Earlier, NICE said the BWSSB announcement had created confusion and hardship to the general public “who have unnecessarily prepared for non-supply of water and opted for temporary storage of water. Some have opted for supply of water through water tankers, thereby incurring unnecessary costs,” a NICE release said.
It said unless BWSSB had other works to be carried out, besides the pipeline shifting work for the BMIC project, there was no reason for the miscommunication.
Shifting over
Meanwhile, NICE announced the completion of the water pipeline shifting works for the BMIC link road alignment at Channasandra. This work was completed in a record period of 24 hours, the release said.
