Bidari meets public, gets mixed response

Bidari meets public, gets mixed response
Bangalore, DHNS:
From domestic family feuds to land grabbing cases, failure to take action and harassment from police to suggestions on improving the traffic mess. These were some of the complaints received by the new police commissioner of the City, Shankar Bidari here on Monday, during his first public grievance meet...

The public thronged the venue at the office of the commissioner on Infantry Road; the meet that began at 3 pm went on until 5 pm. Of the 27 complaints registered, many were just follow-up cases.

Mr Bidari gave a patient hearing to the complainants, and assured them of speedy redressal mechanisms. Speaking to Deccan Herald, he said the meet will be organised every Monday, Wednesday and Friday for good accountability to the public.

“We received complaints of various kinds: harassment, failure to take action, in-action on cases/FIR already registered, and even suggestions on improvement of traffic. I have instructed officials to send queries to jurisdictional police stations, follow up on the complaints and get back to me. We hope to improve the efficiency of the force in this manner.”

Stringent action would be taken if jurisdictional police stations do not solve pending cases, he said.

“I submitted a written memorandum urging the new police commissioner to initiate action against auto-rickshaws found emitting too much smoke. We as citizens must also contribute to better the conditions of the City we live in. Can’t we note down numbers of autos found violating laws and inform authorities? I hope visible results are shown from organising such meets at public fora.”

“I have come to meet the commissioner to highlight and bring to his notice that rowdy elements have encroached land that belongs to the Karnataka State Reserve Police. With encroachments and land grabbing going on, the police must crack down on unlawful activities. In my opinion, such public meets that are organised by every new police chief who takes over, will not solve real problems. I have been attending such meets, without too many positive results”

Mir Saifulla, resident of Jayanagar
