BDA to resolve ‘complex’ issues

Indiranagar: The six-acre shopping complex owned by the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) in Indiranagar might be replaced by a multi-storeyed mall. Taking into account the views of traders, BDA commissioner Siddaiah said the complex will be upgraded into a mall with ample parking space and better economic opportunities.
At a public grievance meeting hosted by the BDA at the Indiranagar shopping complex on Wednesday, the ‘complex’ issues faced by the traders dominated the session. Many shop owners complained of improper lighting, irregular disposal of garbage, unhygienic toilets and water tank, and weak security. They said there is a big gap in security and women are vulnerable in the dark.
“Off late, due to improper lighting here, many unknown people have been driving into the premises at night, drinking and disturbing us,” said M S Rehman, a shop owner at the BDA complex.
“Due to this, families refuse to shop at the complex and our business suffers,” Rehman added.
Siddaiah has ordered BDA officials to give all basic services and restore lighting in all commercial facilities built and maintained by the BDA. Revenue officials have been told to give a list of shops, details of their business and applicable charges made by the allottees.
“Action will be taken against shop owners doing business other than the one originally allotted for,” Siddaiah said. He inspected two commercial sites at Indiranagar — one at II Stage measuring 23,000 sq ft, and another at 14th Cross, 10th Block, II stage.
These sites were originally allotted to some institutions, but have been abandoned and misused. “The two sites will be made into parks,” he said.
He also ordered an inquiry into the misuse of the BDA mini forest land in Domlur II Stage. Members of the Domlur Residents’ Welfare Association said illegal pudina growers in the area have been destroying the BDA plantation there. Siddaiah also visited shopping complexes at Domlur and Austin Town.
