BBMP has withheld payment to solid waste management contractors of East zone.


The Joint Commissioner of the zone has taken the decision following the complaints by city MLAs regarding improper garbage clearance in many areas.

Joint Commissioner Puttaswamy said city MLAs K J George, N A Haris, Roshan Baig, Ramalinga Reddy have complained that garbage disposal has been improper in their respective areas.

"We are spending too much money on garbage disposal every year. But contractors do not clear garbage for two-three years. I have asked my staff not to clear bills until a meeting is held with contractors,” he said.
He said he has called a meeting of contractors and city MLAs on Saturday.

However, garbage contractors allege that garbage bills have not been cleared for the last two months. Garbage Contractors Association General Secretary Balasubramanya said that the Palike should clear the bills at the earliest. Otherwise paying salary to employees, contribution towards ESI of employees would be difficult. He said the Palike has to clear dues close to Rs 3.4 crore of the last two months.
