Ulsoor Lake beautiful again?

Ulsoor Lake beautiful again?
BBMP Starts Cleaning Work, Promises Results In Two Weeks
TIMES NEWS NETWORK

Bangalore: Attempts are finally being made to restore Ulsoor Lake to its splendour. Work on the stormwater drain area has begun and is progressing at a steady pace. Twelve workers were deputed to
clear plastic waste from parts of the lake where sewage from stormwater drains seeped, owing to intermittent rain over the past few weeks.
The Times of India on Thursday highlighted the pathetic condition of Ulsoor Lake (Plastic waste chokes Ulsoor Lake). BBMP engineer in charge of the lake, Venkatesh Murthy, said: “Importance is being given to cleaning of sedimentation tanks to curb flow of sewage into the lake through the stormwater drain inlet. Accumulation of trash and stagnant corners will also be taken care of.’’
Removal and disposal of waste, which has piled up near the drain inlet, will be completed by June 11. Murthy promised that the condition of the lake will improve within 15 days.
Preventing seepage of sewage is the first step. But public apathy is a related issue, as most citizens have no interest in preserving one of Bangalore’s oft-visited tourist spots. Passers-by nonchalantly fling unwanted material from the roadside. Awareness that a single piece of trash thrown by one person will prove devastating, might help lift the shroud of squalor that presently covers the lake.
