Residents wait for better days

Residents wait for better days
Two Localities Endure Suffering For Months In Hope Of Years Of Benefit
— Madhukeshwar Desai and Aniketh B C

Bangalore: Residents of Sadanandnagar and Kasturinagar have been suffering for three months due to prolonged work by the BWSSB and the BBMP in the area, and the consequent traffic congestion. The good news is work is on and the residents can enjoy the results of the civic work for many years.
The BWSSB is laying pipes to manage sewage and drinking water, while the BBMP is constructing stormwater drains and repairing roads. Although work in the area started three months ago, it has got delayed due to several reasons, one of them shortage of labour.
With new pipes installed and connected to major outlets to manage sewage, the existing pipes had to be realigned, which took time. The existing pipes had to be connected to the main pipe, which will finally lead to the sewage tank for disposal.
Pipes to bring in Cauvery water have been connected to provide drinking water to residents, who said this was a great relief because they have been hoping to get Cauvery line in the area.
Officials said work on laying pipes and connecting them will be completed soon, and the entire job is likely to be over in a month. Construction of storm water drains has also delayed the progress. The BBMP decided to make stormwater drains so that rain water can be flushed out easily. A senior BWSSB official said three or four months of inconvenience will make the area trouble-free for more than 10 years.
Traffic affected
The civic work has made access to the area difficult and residents are having a hard time. Many of them have to use small planks to get in and out of their houses because the stretch has been dug up.
The road via NGEF that leads to Kasturinagar, Ramamurthynagar, Hebbal etc has been closed forcing the traffic on to the already-clogged Old Madras Road. This is also one of the routes to the airport for people staying in CV Raman Nagar, Jeevan Bheema Nagar, Indiranagar etc.
While the main Rail-line Road, where the work is going on, has been closed, the alternative road through Sadanandnagar is in a bad shape. Commuters feel the least that could be done is to make this alternative road motorable.
