After call taxis, it is now time for call autos! The success of cabs on call has motivated the auto unions to start a similar service.

Soon you will be able to hire an auto on call. Dial the call center number and autos will be available at your doorsteps in a short period. However, the union is awaiting a green signal from the government.

Mr Somasekhara of the Adarsha auto and Taxi Drivers’ Union said their efforts to start the service a year ago was put on hold as the JD (S) government did not granted them permits.

“We have given memorandum to the government for approval and we are confident that we will get it this time. Once it is approved, we will start the service,” a confident Somasekhara said.

The union has asked for permit to run 7,000 such autos. Initially 100 such autos will ply in the city and wait for the response.

“If the response is good, we will ply another 6,000 autos in the city,” said Mr Somasekhara.

These new autorickshaws will look different from the normal autos. They will be green and yellow in colour, with electronic meters installed.

The auto fare per kilometer will be Rs.10 and the minimum charge will be Rs.30 that will be for two and half kilometers. Also, there will be a call center exclusively to enable this service, wherein people can call and book autos.

The auto drivers will be provided with wireless systems, which will make it easy to track them.

“The association will give training to the new auto drivers. If any complaints are registered against the new drivers, their vehicles will be seized,” added Mr Somasekhara.
