Protests stall traffic in city

Bangalore: Arterial roads of the city, including KG Road and Stadium Road, were gridlocked for hours on Wednesday morning as several organizations protested the fertilizer fiasco in Haveri. Several commuters were stuck in slow-moving traffic. KG Road, Mysore Bank Circle, roads leading towards KR Circle, KH Road, Stadium Road were affected.
Protesters from the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike and Raitha Sangha staged a dharna in front of Mysore Bank Circle. They alleged the government is not doing enough for the cause of farmers and blamed it for the violence in Haveri, Belgaum and other parts of the state on Tuesday.
The CPM, CPI, Forward Bloc and other organizations blocked Marikuppam-Bangalore passenger train at the Cantonment railway station.
Later, the CPM staged a dharna in front of the Mahatma Gandhi statue on MG Road. The protesters demanded that the government crack down on illegal hoarding of fertilizers and seeds. They also urged the government to provide Rs 10 lakh as a compensation to the family of the firing victim and Rs 5 lakh to those injured.
