BANGALORE: It was a deluge of complaints in Bangalore on Sunday. Heavy rain brought its woes as the City meteorological department on Sunday recorded 40.8 mm rainfall while the airport meteorological department recorded 29.8 mm. The south west monsoon showers, followed by thunder and lightning, are likely to increase in the next 48 hours.

Control rooms of various civic agencies of the City were flooded with calls and complaints. Traffic jams and crawling traffic were reported from various parts of the City due to water logging, heavy rainfall and tree falls.

The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) recorded several tree fall incidents in Bangalore North like Sadashivanagar where two tree fall complaints were recorded, one on a car. However no injuries were reported.

Many trees fell in Bangalore East like in HAL 2nd stage, 12th Main, 13th Main, 11th Main, 6th Cross and in Indiranagar. Along with water-logging in Bangalore West, tree fall complaints were also reported from 13th Main MC Layout and in Vijayanagar.

The BBMP control room also recorded water clogging complaints from Hennur, Padmanabhanagar and Vivekanagar. Two houses were flooded in Raghavendraswamy Layout and Vivekanagar 3rd Cross.

The South Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) service station recorded six complaints regarding sanitation, blockage in sewerage lines and water logging.

Twelve complaints were reported from North BWSSB service station, largely of overflowing manholes in front of houses. The BWSSB West service station received two sanitary complaints while the East service station recorded minor complaints.

No major complaints were reported at the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) control rooms. An electric grounding problem at Sahakarnagar was reported and was being rectified.

A senior BESCOM official commented that their services were not affected much since the wind speed was low and they had to contend with just the rain.
