BANGALORE: Hogging all the limelight at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national executive meet in Delhi as the first Chief Minister of the party from a southern state, B S Yeddyurappa vowed to make Karnataka a model state for the country.

Addressing the meet on Sunday, Yeddyurappa said, “The people of Karnataka have observed two pro-people budgets and development work done by BJP ministers in the 20-month coalition government.

We will strive to bring Karnataka to the forefront of developed states of India. We have pledged to turn Karnataka into a model state in terms of development and welfare of all sections of people irrespective of regional, religious and ethnic background.”

Referring to the historic victory of BJP in the State, Yeddyurappa said, the failure of successive Congress governments on development front and betrayal of Janata Dal (Secular) helped BJP to come to power.

“Janata Dal for Vishwas Droha, Congress for Viphalatha and BJP for Vikas are the prime reasons for our victory.”

He gladdened the hears of the gathering by stating, “Our objective now is to get maximum Parliament Members elected from Karnataka and bring the BJP government at national level under the able leadership of our great leader LK Advani.”

Earlier in the day, Yeddyurappa was accorded a grand welcome outside the Delhi airport. Party workers showering flower petals garlanded him profusely.
