‘Rs. 50,000 crore for Bangalore infrastructure in five years’

Bangalore: The Congress manifesto dedicates an entire section to Bangalore and promises “to restore the pride of Bangalore”.

Major assurances include a total investment of Rs. 50,000 crore to improve the city’s infrastructure in five years and the formation of a single agency that will coordinate all service providers, including water, sanitation, transport and housing, under the BBMP.

Accusing the Janata Dal (Secular)-Bharatiya Janata Party coalition of destroying the “brand name of Bangalore” the manifesto envisages a slew of measures to undo the “disaster”. It proposes a series of short-term and long-term measures.

The short-term measures include completing ongoing infrastructure projects on time, construction of subways with pre-cast magic boxes and laying of citizen-friendly sidewalks. The long-term promises include construction of elevated roads, widening of high-density corridors, extending of metro linkage to Greater Bangalore and introduction of a circular rail system. On the agenda is also a dedicated rail connection to Bangalore International Airport from the city. It says that if voted to power, the Congress will implement the master plan on the IT corridor project, along with a techno-fast track road. The manifesto has its own green agenda. It says it will make Bangalore plastic-free, introduce CNG in buses and government vehicles and create two botanical gardens
