Why the hurry, ask people

Why the hurry, ask people
BBMP has gone ahead with precast underpass and surfacepass projects much against the public apprehension, criticism and suggestions to improve the system. Responding to Deccan Heralds initiative - Concrete Solution? - many subject experts and readers have said that there are better models than the one being implemented by the Palike. While welcoming the objective, they have opined that the Palike should not have rushed through the construction. Attention should have been paid to make the project more technically sound, they feel.

LEADER SPEAKS

The pre-cast technology that Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has adopted, is perhaps the only immediate solution to ease traffic problem in the city. It can be implemented quickly, and it is economical too. But, construction of a flyover or an underpass in conventional way consumes a lot of time. Moreover, by the time flyovers are built - which usually takes three years - the project itself becomes outdated due to fast increasing vehicle population.

The new technology of constructing underpass in less than a month ensures that traffic keeps moving, which is most important. I congratulate BBMP Commissioner for his initiative in this regard. But the only hitch is the width. If it is bit bigger, nothing like it.
