New ways to reach BIA

Is the thought of travelling to Bengaluru International Airport giving you nightmares? It’s not just the distance which is bothering Bangaloreans, especially those in southern and eastern parts of the City, but the traffic which is creating a lot of anxiety among them.
The Bangalore City traffic police have come out with a suggestion - of using alternate roads to BIA. This, they say, will be especially of use to the people in South and East Bangalore.
As per the advisory, a copy of which is with the Deccan Herald, the police have given a list of roads for those heading to BIA from different locations in the City. “The general impression is that to reach the international airport at Devanahalli, one has to go to the Basaveswara Circle and move on to Windsor Manor underpass, Mekhri Circle and Hebbal flyover before hitting Bellary Road. If everyone takes this route, there will be traffic snarls. To save time, we have worked out some alternate roads which don’t enter the City at all. People should try them out,” said ACP (Traffic) Praveen Sood. The roads touch two main junctions - Bagalur and Hennur - before joining the highway.
He said those coming from West and North Bangalore, will however, have to take the Hebbal flyover to reach the BIA.
The suggested roads belong to the PWD and are motorable.
“To begin with, we would advise people to use them during the day. The PWD has developed six roads. Most of them have signages. We hope that by the time the airport is commissioned, all of them will have the signages. We have surveyed these roads and found the travelling time is reduced by more than an hour. People may have to travel additional 5 to 10 km but it will be smooth and without any traffic congestion,” said Mr Sood.
