Mechanised house keeping in 57 bus stations

Buses will be subjected to weekly special cleaning

BANGALORE: Passengers travelling by Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) buses and bus stations in many districts can expect well-maintained buses, cleaner bus stations and stench-free toilets from April first week, if KSRTC keeps its promise.

The corporation has promised to offer better services to passengers within its premises by adopting mechanised house keeping in 57 bus stations across six divisions — Mysore, Davangere, Kolar, Tumkur, Mandya and Mangalore from April 1.

KSRTC Managing Director A.P. Joshi told reporters here on Tuesday that the decision was taken after mechanised house keeping was successfully tested and implemented at the Kempe Gowda Bus Station (KBS) and Mysore Road Terminal in Bangalore. The corporation has finalised agencies to undertake house keeping task at these bus stations, which will use modern equipment with trained workforce. House keeping activity includes cleaning of toilets, urinals, bus bays, platforms, offices, crew rest rooms, electrical equipment, pest control and garden maintenance. Equipment such as heavy duty scrubber driver, flipper, high pressure jet pump and heavy duty wet and dry vacuum cleaner will be used by the contractors.

Maintenance of buses will also go hi-tech, even as buses are mopped on a daily basis. Apart from mechanised body washing, interiors of buses will be subjected to weekly special cleaning programme, Mr. Joshi said.

Depending upon the outcome of mechanised house keeping, the programme will be extended to the remaining six divisions of the corporation, he added.
