KSRTC plans transit unit near Devanahalli airport
DH News Service, Bangalore:

Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has proposed construction of an inter-modal transit centre (IMTC) near the international airport.

KSRTC Managing Director A P Joshi said the transport hub near the airport would come up at the ‘Trumpet Interchange Flyover Loop’ on NH 7. “Karnataka State Industrial Investment and Development Corporation has given a land measuring 0.5 acre for construction of the transit centre” he said.

The IMTC, to be constructed at a cost of Rs 20 lakh, will have multi modal transport facilities under one roof to facilitate passengers travelling to the airport and Devanahalli and will be equipped with a provision for inter and intra city buses, prepaid auto rickshaw, taxi cab facilities, hotel, dormitories and a Yatri Nivas to cater to requirements of travellers.

Joshi added that construction of temporary facilities to meet immediate requirements of travelling passengers, bus shelters, cobble stone pavement, toilets, water supply facilities with auto rickshaw and taxi facilities would start immediately.

Hotel reservations

KSRTC will also start offering hotel reservation to commuters through its existing AWATAR (Any Where Any Time Advance Reservation System).

This would be an extended optional facility to bus commuters who get to book hotel reservations too.

At present, a manual booking system of hotel reservations through KSRTC counters has already been started on a pilot basis from March 21, 2008.

The facility will initially have 25 hotels spread across Mysore Bangalore, Dharwad, Hospet, Mangalore, Kushalnagar, Chennai and Vijayawada offering hotel rooms.

“The AWATAR hotel reservation system will be operational from May or June 2008, KSRTC is in the process of developing the software and integrate it with hotels based on criteria such as type of hotel (budget, business or luxury) and room tariff etc. Seven hotels in Mysore - Hotel Abhishek, Hotel Palace Plaza, Hotel Kanishka, Hotel Gallery View, Hotel Swagath, Hotel Gupta and Hotel Sandesh Prince have already entered into an agreement with us” Joshi said.
