Flyovers to come up at Iblur, Agara

Construction to be completed by October 2009

Bangalore: The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) will construct two flyovers — one at Iblur junction and another at Agara junction — at a cost of Rs. 60 crore, and the work will commence in February.

Talking to presspersons on the sidelines of a function on Thursday organised to dedicate roads improved by the BDA in Byatarayanapura zone, its Commissioner M.S. Shankaralinge Gowda said each flyover would be of about 0.5 km length and aimed at easing traffic on Outer Ring Road junctions of Iblur and Agara. Construction would be completed by October 2009, he added.

To a query on BDA’s proposed five residential layout projects, Mr. Gowda said the authority on Thursday requested Governor Rameshwar Thakur to approve to the projects, which were placed before the Government before President’s Rule was imposed. The BDA had sought the Government’s nod to form five layouts: Kempe Gowda Layout, between Magadi Road and Mysore Road (acquiring 4,814 acres to form about 61,000 sites) at a cost of Rs. 2,639 crore; Shivaram Karanth Layout between Doddaballapur Road and Hesaraghatta Road (3,546 acres and 19,000 sites) at a cost of Rs. 1,847 crore; D. Devaraj Urs Layout between Airport Road and Varthur village (1,976 acres and 25,000 sites) at a cost of Rs. 1,108 crore; S. Nijalingappa Layout between Varthur village and Sarjapur Road (2,806 acres, 35,000 sites) at a cost of Rs. 1,550 crore; and K.C. Reddy Layout between Hosur Road and Sarjapur Road (2,134 acres and 26,000 sites) at a cost of Rs. 1,170 crore.

He also said that the BDA, instead of awarding monetary compensation for acquired land, would give 2,400 sq ft of developed land for every acre of land acquired for the formation of new layouts. Of the about 1.5 lakh sites planned in these layouts, 60,000 would be returned to original land owners as compensation.
