Drive to new airport gets easier
TIMES NEWS NETWORK

Bangalore: With the inauguration of the Bengaluru International Airport round the corner, the BDA has spent Rs 10.44 crore to upgrade 9.5 km of roads in Byatarayanapura zone to make the drive to the airport a pleasant one.
Inaugurating the roads on Thursday, governor Rameshwar Thakur said the roads were upgraded as they were battered during heavy rain in 2005.
“As promised, the BDA has been dedicating the completed projects or announcing new projects to the public,’’ added Thakur.
BDA commissioner M K Shankarlinge Gowda said these roads will provide a reprieve to motorists from Sahakarnagar, Kodigehalli, Sanjeevininagar, Tindlu, Nanjappa Layout, Vidyaranyapura and surrounding areas. This apart, work on Agara and Iblur flyovers will commence in February. The project is estimated to cost Rs 60 crore and will be completed in 18 months from the date of commencement.
Five mega layouts
Rameshwar Thakur has promised the BDA that the five mega layout projects will be approved shortly. A final decision will be taken in the upcoming cabinet meeting.
The layouts will be spread over 15,000 acres and will have 1.76 lakh sites. A government estimate says there’s a requirement for 2.1 lakh sites. Nearly 75,000 flats will be constructed. Layouts will be owned by BDA and land-owners in the ratio of 60:40.
