Bangaloreans want dance floor back

Bangaloreans want dance floor back
TIMES NEWS NETWORK

Bangalore: Where’s the party, tonight? Certainly, not on the dance floors of Bangalore’s discotheques and hotels, thanks to the administration which has cracked the whip on them. Overworked and entertainment-starved Bangaloreans are vociferous in their criticism against the government for infringing upon their right to shake a leg if they chose to. Says Tanya Bhat, “TOI should organize a protest near Gandhi Statue on MG Road. Let’s hold up traffic, dance in the streets and call attention to this ridiculous ban.’’
Professionals of Silicon Plateau are concerned about the beating the city’s cosmopolitan image has taken, thanks to such rules. Vinod Gowda, who works with an MNC, says, “A couple of years ago, some friends and I rejected job offers from the Middle East because of the restrictions on social life there. We stayed back in Bangalore.
But now I regret it, for it has made no difference, thanks to these rules banning dancing.’’
Most people are puzzled why the police wants to curb a harmless and healthy form of entertainment. K Chidanand Kumar says, “Banning dancing in a metropolis like Bangalore which ranks among the top happening cities in the world is akin to prohibiting sports in schools. It is simply ludicrous that the police has brought about this archaic rule. Dancing in discotheques cannot be equated to something abominable; on the contrary, it’s spirited amusement for the young at heart.’’
Usha G Rao says with this latest diktat, Bangalore is quickly going down the lane of regression. Instead, she invokes Cliff Richards to say, ‘Put on your dancing shoes and dance your blues away’.
