Bangalore:
Work on the Metro Rail is expected to speed up with the state giving its approval to the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRC) to begin work on the selection of firms for underground tunnelling, supply of rail wagons and setting-up of signalling and telecommunication networks by issuing tenders.
BMRC MD V Madhu told TOI that one company will be selected from among the four vying for the supply of wagons/bodies β€” Siemens, Bombardier, BEML-Mitsubishi and Alsthom. β€œAll of them are world class companies. We will select one that satisfies all our requirements following bidding,’’ Madhu said. Shortlisting of companies is going on for underground tunnelling work also. The winning firm will build a 9.5-km tunnel on the North-South and East-West corridors, covering important areas like City Market, MG Road, Majestic and Vidhana Soudha. The tunnel is expected to cost Rs 1,250 crore. The company will have to bore 15 m for the tunnel every day. Topographic study of the area is being carried out. Seven other firms are competing for the contract for signalling and telecommunication work.
The meeting also reviewed the progress of work and consideration of detailed project reports prepared by the Delhi Metro on the extension of Metro from Yeshwantpur to Hesarghatta Cross, and from RV Road to Jarganahalli.
