They bang on your car, lift cellphones
DH News Service, Bangalore:
Journalist Nagathihalli Ramesh was in a state of bewilderment on Tuesday evening when he lost his cellphone from his car within a fraction of seconds on the busy MG Road.

He was stuck at the traffic signal near Brigade Road when he received a call on his mobile phone. As he was attending the call he noticed three boys banging on his car from behind. By doing so, the boys managed to divert his attention and made him look back on the window. In the meantime, one of them picked up his expensive handset, which he had kept on the seat.

Nagathihalli Ramesh lodged a complaint at the Ashok Nagar police station the same evening. To his good fortune, he got back his cellphone within half-an-hour of the incident.

The gang ran out of luck at Ravindra Kalakshetra the same evening. Two of the gang members were caught by Ulsoor Gate police when they were banging on another car. Two of their accomplices managed to flee the spot.
The arrested were identified as Aqeel and Mohammed Rahim Khan, residents of Malavi slum in Mumbai. They gave the names of their accomplices as Dinesh and Mohammed.

Police recovered two cell phones including the one of Nagathihalli Ramesh and Rs 19,000 cash from them. The duo revealed that they made frequent visits to Bangalore and in the last couple of months made around Rs 1.5 lakh. Their modus operandi wasn’t working in Mumbai as people had become aware of their trick, so they tried their luck in Bangalore.
