Wards now as per delimitation

Bangalore: At 32 sqkm, Hemmigepura will be the biggest ward in Greater Bangalore. And the smallest is 0.44 sqkm, Jagajeevanramnagar. Wards in Greater Bangalore will see a sizable increase in area under the new delimitation process with every assembly segment having five to seven wards.
The proposal has been sent to the government on the carving of BBMP wards in sync with delimitation of assembly constituencies by Delimitation Commission of India. Though the number of wards, 145, has remained the same as in the first proposal, the size and boundaries have changed.
The newly formed Hemmigepura in Byatarayanapura assembly segment, which itself is a newly carved constituency, comprises Kengeri Satellite Town, Vaddarahalli, Harsha Layout, Mylasandra, Green Valley Layout, BHEL Layout, Remco Layout, Pattanagere, BEML, etc.
JJ Nagar area, under Chamarajpet assembly constituency, has Rayapura, Vinayakanagar, Devraj Urs Nagar, according to the proposal made available to The Times of India.
After the formation of Greater Bangalore in January 2007, a committee was formed headed by M A Sadiq, deputy commissioner, urban, to work on the ward delimitation. It proposed formation of 145 wards. This was based on the amendment to the KMC Act which provided for increase in the number of wards. However, the government asked the authorities to submit another proposal as the existing 16 assembly constituencies under Bangalore Urban had expanded to 28 after delimitation.
The population as per the 2001 census is 58,40,155 and a total number of 349 wards (BMP, CMCs, TMC and village) had to be considered to form 145 wards spread over 709.53 sq kms. This time, the authorities used GIS mapping to look at 211 sq kms of old BMP area with 43.13 lakh population and 500 sq kms of CMCs, TMC and villages with a population of 15 lakh.
In the earlier proposal, of the 145 wards, at least 80 figured in more than one assembly constituency. Which means, one ward was a part of two to three assembly constituencies. To clear this confusion, the revised proposal ensures that each assembly segment has five to seven wards.
