Bangalore: The city’s pothole count has come down by 2,767. For the past one week, the BBMP has been filling potholes on a war-footing. It has identified 8,100-odd potholes and more than 1,100 road-cuttings in the east and west zones.
BBMP commissioner S Subramanya is personally checking asphalting works on Kadirenahalli Main Road, Ilyasnagar Main Road, KR Market, JC Road and New BEL Road. His instruction to workers: complete the work on time and make roads motorable.
For best results, road work is conducted by employing the following method.
To resurface roads, tar must be heated to 1400 C. Rolling and compaction is completed before the temperature dips to 1000 C.
To fill potholes, emulsification using asphalt at 1200 C is the standard procedure. Asphalting and pothole-filling is done at night to give sufficient time for compaction. In the west zone, 5,777 potholes and 755 road-cuttings have been identified, and 1,195 potholes and 221 road-cuttings filled.
In the east zone, 2,483 potholes and 353 road-cuttings have been identified, and 1,572 potholes and 200 road-cuttings have been filled in Shantinagar, Shivajinagar, Bharatinagar and Jayamahal.
In the south zone, potholes are being fixed on BTM Layout 16th Main, Nagarbhavi Main Road; Vignananagar, AECS Layout; Arch Road and Rajarajeshwarinagar.
