BBMP set to net Rs 800 crore
DH News Service, Bangalore:
"If the scheme is implemented properly, it will earn around Rs 800 crore revenue to BBMP. We are trying our best to convince owners of unauthorised and deviated portions of properties to avail the scheme," BBMP Deputy Commissioner (Resources) U A Vasanth Rao.

More than the owners of unauthorised and deviated portions of properties, BBMP seems to be eager to implement Sakrama scheme. For, the scheme is likely to be a jackpot, fetching a whopping Rs 800 crore.

“If the scheme is implemented properly, it will earn around Rs 800 crore revenue to BBMP. We are trying our best to convince owners of unauthorised and deviated portions of properties to avail the scheme,” BBMP Deputy Commissioner (Resources) U A Vasanth Rao.Rao says the entire money will be utilised for upgrading infrastructure facilities of the City.

“While 50 per cent of the money collected through the scheme will be used for providing civic amenities, another 50 per cent will be spent for major infrastructure projects,” he stated.

To ensure that the money collected from regularisation is not diverted to other projects, the State Government has directed BBMP to open a separate bank account to deposit the money.

“The money will be spent following specific directions from the Government from time to time,” the Deputy Commissioner stated. Apart from BBMP, the scheme is being implemented by BDA and BMRDA.

In fact, it is for the first time BBMP is getting such a huge amount to spend on upgrading the city’s infrastructure.
All newly-added areas of BBPM, erstwhile seven CMCs, one TMC and 110 villages, are lagging behind in development compared to the previous BMP area.
