Panel on water 'hunt'
Bangalore, DHNS:
To meet the demands of Bangalore, the government has constituted an expert committee to find new sources of water.

The government has constituted an expert committee to find new sources of water to meet the demands of Bangalore, said Home, Law and Parliamentary Affair Minister M P Prakash.

Replying to Mr Vatal Nagaraj (Ind), Mr Dharam Singh (Cong) and Mr R Roshan Baig (Cong) during the question hour on Tuesday, Mr Prakash admitted the BWSSB was finding it hard to supply water to the City.

The City will get 500 million lakh litres per day (MLD) when the Cauvery IV Stage water supply scheme is completed in 2011-12. But the water supply from Thippagondanahalli reservoir has come down from 135 MLD to 38 MLD.

The City population is expected to touch 1.5 crore in the near future, but the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal has put a cap on water utilisation. So, the government has constituted an expert committee. Once we get a reply, we’ll take necessary action, he said.
