'Rain likely to increase in the coming weeks'

In July, Bangalore on the other hand has recorded more than double the normal rainfall, i.e. 264.3 mm against the normal rainfall of 110 mm.


Fifty per cent of the monsoon season completed, the state has received rainfall which is 20 per cent above the normal rainfall (NR) from June 1 to July 30.

In the coming weeks there is a likelihood of a low pressure area developing in the South Andhra and North Tamil Nadu coast which is likely to increase rainfall in the interior of Karnataka, says Director, Meteorological Department, Dr G S Vijayaraghavan.

The Coastal Karnataka comprising Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts have received seven per cent lesser rainfall than normal from June 1 to July 30.

North Interior Karnataka comprising Bagalkot, Belgaum, Bidar, Bijapur, Dharwad, Gadag, Gulbarga, Haveri, Koppal and Raichur have received 50 percent more rainfall than normal from June 1 to July 30.

South Interior Karnataka comprising Bangalore Rural, Bangalore Urban, Bellary, Chamrajnagar, Chickmagalur, Chitradurga, Davangere, Kodagu, Kolar, Mandya, Hassan, Mysore, Shimoga and Tumkur have received 34 per cent more rainfall than normal from June 1 to July 30.

In North Interior Karnataka, Koppal recorded the highest rainfall with 102 percent above normal, while Bidar recorded the lowest rainfall with seven percent below normal.

In South Interior Karnataka, Kodagu recorded the highest rainfall with 89 percent above normal rainfall, while Hassan recorded the lowest rainfall of 27 percent below normal. In Coastal Karnataka, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi recorded four percent below normal rainfall and Uttara Kannanda recorded 10 percent below normal rainfall.
