BANGALORE: To reduce congestion on the city roads by encouraging people to use public transport, the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) is now working on remodelling its existing bus stations so that people can park there and travel by a BMTC bus.

The bus stations which will act as Transport Transit Management Centre (TTMC) will be a reality by 2009. One can board a bus and head towards their destination. BMTC will also ply mini-buses from every major residential area to the nearest TTMC, so that commuters can board a bus of their choice.

The TTMC will have multi-level parking lot, public utilities like mini-shopping centres and food courts. “We have identified 45 places to construct TTMCs, out of which 10 have been sent for the approval. Jayanagar TTMC, which has already got a nod from the Ministry of Urban Development is under construction,” a senior official told this paper.

TTMCs will be constructed at Bannerghatta, Kengeri, Domlur, Yeshwantpur, Koramangala, Vijayanagar, ITPL, Banashankari and Shantinagar. The existing Shantinagar BMTC terminus will be upgraded to seven storey building and a Volvo Bus Depot will be constructed adjacent to the terminus.
