Master Plan 2015 aims at balanced growth across the city. Poornima B V reports

The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA), in its Master Plan 2015, has made efforts to push development to the eastern and western sectors of Bangalore. These areas have been thrown open to development and the aim is to have balanced growth and make these sectors on par with the northern and southern sectors.
In the western sector, between Mysore Road and Magadi Road, out of a total area of 4,322.50 acres, the BDA will develop 16,200 sites and build 48,283 housing units out of which 18,095 units are for low income groups, 23,060 for middle income groups and 11,405 units will be developed for high income groups.
Bangalore west has a good source of water and also a good ground water table. Also, it has good connectivity to the Peripheral Ring Road and the State highway. It also has a good drainage system with no flooding. It also has lakes, valleys and adequate green cover that are ideal for recreation and residential spaces.
On the eastern sector, between Varthur Road, Sarjapur Road and Hosur Road - with a total of 5,700 acres or 23 sqkm - the BDA will develop 11,560 sites and 96,566 budget housing units. Of these, 31,190 will be low income houses, while 44,120 and 22,810 units will be for middle income and high income groups respectively. Bangalore east is known for its IT parks and offices. Having residential houses in these areas will result in reduced commute time for employees and help both employers and employees.
The green belt has been opened mainly in the west (between Mysore Road and Tumkur Road) and east (between Bellary Road and Hosur Road). These areas have remained largely undeveloped in the past when compare to other regions in the city and the effort is to balance growth in all sectors, according to BDA sources.
