BWSSB ready to face rain

BWSSB ready to face rain
DH News Service, Bangalore:
The BWSSB officials told Deccan Herald that during monsoon, house owners let the rainwater collected in their terraces into UGDs, resulting in drains getting clogged.

With the onset of monsoon in the City, the BWSSB is all prepared to meet challenges posed by clogged Under Ground Drains (UGDs).

The BWSSB officials told Deccan Herald that during monsoon, house owners let the rainwater collected in their terraces into UGDs, resulting in drains getting clogged.

This compounds the problem as UGDs are not equipped to take in rain water. They are just outlets for waste water flowing out of homes, apartments or commercial complexes, say officials.

“The right approach is to let out rain water into drains provided by the BBMP outside homes/bungalows. The City has 40,000 manholes.

BWSSB undertook an intensive cleaning drive of 25,000 manholes during the last monsoon. This year, we have cleaned and sanitised 9,000 manholes to prevent sewerage clogging,” said A N Prahalad Rao, Public Relations Officer, BWSSB.

The BWSSB has also geared up to ensure water is free from contamination during monsoon. “Apart from chlorination of water at the treatment plant at T K Halli, all 64 LLRs (Low Level Reservoirs) in the City will chlorinate water.” Mr Rao added. A 24-hour control room has been set up to receive public grievances. Call 22945155 / 22945129.
