Hotels green gesture...
DH News Service, Bangalore:

Here is some good news for those of you who are concerned over the scores of trees likely to be axed by civic authorities as part of road widening project. The Taj West End has come forward to save trees and help in the transplantation process if the government provides land for replanting them.
Scores of trees on Race Course Road, Palace Road, Seshadri Road and Kasturba Road, which are likely to be felled as part of BBMP’s road widening programme, could be transplanted. The hotel has already relocated 30 trees.
Speaking to Deccan Herald, S L V Prasad, senior horticulturist, Taj West End said that since May 4, 30 trees have been transplanted using earth movers and trolleys.
Among the trees transplanted include a few fully grown trees like Rain Tree, Gulmohar and a few others belonging to the Ficus species, which are about 30 to 40 years old.
The hotel management has held discussions with the Bangalore Environment Trust and agreed to help in the transplantation process.
“If the State government is willing to provide land, we will help them by relocating trees not just on this road but on other roads as well,” Prasad said.
Meanwhile, Krishna Udupdai, Deputy Conservator of Forests, BBMP said efforts are on to save maximum number of trees on the four road. “Twelve trees will be relocated from Race Course Road and 50 trees saved on Seshadri Road and Palace Road.”
