BANGALORE: On Wednesday, the south zone office of Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) was flooded with complaints and queries seeking answers regarding the unfinished works initiated by the civic agency.

Padmanabhanagar residents and members of Abhyuda Federation of Resident Welfare Association, along with 30 other member groups complained regarding public inconveniences, which were reviewed by BBMP Administrator Dilip Rau.

Meera Mukund, a committee member of Abhyuda Federation said that the biggest BBMP ward lacks basic facilities like asphalted roads and footpaths, maintained storm water drains and cleanliness.

"Footpaths and storm water drains are encroached with commercial and residential establishments. Apartments have been constructed on drains and the BBMP has not initiated any action till date. Garbage menace is another problem which the residents are facing," said Mukund, another resident.

Some members pointed that the BBMP engineers were not carrying out their chores properly which was adding to the people’s woes.

"We had requested for the construction of five public toilets in the area, the proposal of which is still pending with the BBMP for the last three years," he added.

Another problem put across by the residents of Jayanagar 4th Block was regarding encroachment and cleanliness of Byrasandra Tank. "The development of the tank, including fencing and construction of the park is pending. The tank is turning into a dump yard which is posing health threats to people," said S Venkat Sabharao, secretary of RBI Colony Welfare Association.

BBMP Administrator Dilip Rau assured residents that their problems will be solved. He also instructed the engineers to take immediate measures. "Adequate funds will be granted for the maintenance of the areas," he added.
