Keeping in mind the demand for more buses on certain routes, Bangalore MetropolitanTransport Corporation (BMTC) has started shuttle services linking 20 important traffic junctions in the City. According to BMTC officials, the shuttle services, which got underway recently, are doing quite well.

The project involved a capital investment of Rs 11 crore for the purchase of 100 buses. "We have identified 18 to 20 chaotic routes in the City. We have engaged two to four buses on these routes and are getting a good response from commuters," said Dastagir Sharieff, Chief Traffic Manager.

These shuttle services do not pass through City junctions like Shivajinagar, City Market and Kempe Gowda Bus Terminus. "Once buses go through these junctions, they get stuck in traffic. The frequency of our shuttle services is thus high," explained Sharieff.

The routes for the service have been fixed after considering several aspects. "Take, for example, the route from Madiwala to Chandapura. It covers destinationslike Narayana Hrudayalaya, Bomasandra Industrial Layout and Electronic City," Sharief noted.
