BMICs stalled works on track
DH News Service, Bangalore:
The work on first phase of the Bangalore Mysore Infrastructure Corridor Project can now go on with the Karnataka High Court issuing a direction to this effect.
The work on first phase of the Bangalore Mysore Infrastructure Corridor Project - which had been stalled following withdrawal of consent by the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board - can now go on with the Karnataka High Court issuing a direction to this effect.
A division Bench comprising Justice K Bhaktavatsala and Justice A S Bopanna, however, said work on the first phase can resume in all areas except the area around Gottigere lake. The lake area is a subject matter of litigation and a division Bench of High Court will decide on the issue.
Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprise Ltd (NICE), which is implementing the project, had moved the High Court challenging withdrawal of the consent by the Pollution Control Board. They said since there was urgency involved in the matter, it had moved the appellate tribunal against the order. However, the tribunal did not grant any interim order and adjourned the matter to May 30. NICE said as a result of this, work on the first phase of the project had been stalled.
Caveat
Anticipating a challenge to the verdict of single judge Bench of the High Court in the lottery case, the government will file a caveat on Friday.
The government advocate said the formalities have been completed and caveat would be filed in the court on Friday. The government expects a challenge to the recent verdict which had upheld the ban on lottery.
