BANGALORE: To overcome traffic snarls on the outskirts of the city and improve connectivity between the towns, the Bangalore Metropolitan Region Development Authority (BMRDA) and the Public Works Department have proposed to develop a network of 367 km of ring roads connecting satellite towns around the city and town ring roads in the Bangalore Metropolitan Region.

Initiating the process of developing these roads, the BMRDA and the PWD, through a notification on May 3, invited pre-qualification tenders from developers.

The network of satellite towns ring road and individual town ring roads has been divided into four packages with a total length of 367 km, which is to be executed on a design-build-own-operate-transfer (DBOOT) or annuity basis at a cost of Rs. 3,700 crore.

These roads are expected to reduce travel time between the towns located in the periphery of Bangalore.

The packages that have been proposed are the northern package connecting Dobbaspet to Devanahalli (89 km) at a cost of Rs. 920 crore, eastern package connecting Devanahalli to Attibele (80 km) at a cost of Rs. 820 crore, southern package connecting Attibele to Ramanagara (128 km) at a cost of Rs. 1,320 crore and western package from Ramanagara to Attibele (70 km) at a cost of Rs. 740 crore.

Town ring roads

The BMRDA has proposed the individual town rings roads, which would also act as bypass, to provide connectivity between the national highways, State highways and radial roads besides providing easy connectivity to the proposed STRR and intermediate ring road. The ring roads would also prevent passing of high-speed traffic in developed areas around these towns.

The notification says that individual town ring roads would be provided to Kanakapura, Ramanagara, Magadi, Doddaballapur, Devanahalli, Hoskote, Anekal and Nelamangala. 367 km of ring roads planned
