Developers step up pressure on BMRDA to lift ban

BANGALORE: Hundreds of land developers in the Bangalore Metropolitan region along with their employees staged a dharna on Friday in front of the Bangalore Metropolitan Region Development Authority (BMRDA) office on Ali Asker Road demanding lifting of ban on land conversion and approval of layout plans in the BMR jurisdiction.

The dharna follows a meeting held with the Metropolitan Commissioner Sudhir Krishna on Thursday. The land developers were seeking lifting of ban imposed since July 14, 2006. The BMRDA has put on hold all approvals relating to plan sanctioning in its jurisdiction because the interim master plan is yet to be approved by the State Government.

The BMRDA has submitted the interim master plan for the local planning areas of Magadi, Kanakapura, Hoskote, Nelamangala and Anekal and area planning zones for Ramanagaram and Chennapatna.

In a memorandum submitted to the Metropolitan Commissioner, the land developers urged the BMRDA to begin land conversion and approval of layout plans immediately because they were facing a crisis.

Thousands of those employed were suffering because wages had not been disbursed due to the ban, the memorandum said.

It said the conversion and plan sanctions that were stopped on July 14 should have been opened by December 31 as per the BMRDA, and that the industry was loosing huge amount of money because of ban.

Development affected

Pending approval, it is learnt that development of residential enclaves on 4,000 acres in the Bangalore Metropolitan region had been affected because these were in various stages of progress.
