Bangalore: The contentious underpass at Malleswaram Circle, will get a new lease of life as work is slated to resume soon.
At a review meeting of infrastructure projects on Tuesday, health minister and district-in-charge R Ashok, when asked about the protests that BJP members had been taking up at Malleswaram, he said, “The work will be taken up with some corrections.” The underpass now has clearance from the Centre too, after a DPR was submitted under the JN-NURM.
The story so far
The Malleswaram Circle underpass was accorded state government approval on November 28, 2005 at an investment cost of Rs 16 crore. Accordingly work started on July 30, this year. Based on the concerns raised by local residents, BMP commissioner K Jairaj was directed by the state to address them.
Accordingly, the design of the Malleswaram Circle underpass has been re-oriented to accommodate the traffic flow from Margosa Road into the underpass and relocating the two bus bays at Pampa Mahakavi Road and Margosa Road.
An official release from BMP also states that — The traffic at the Temple Road link road with the underpass interface would be harmonised by widening the link road.
