Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy on Tuesday undertook a comprehensive review of infrastructure projects for Bangalore worth over Rs 1,000 crore, including a Rs 100-crore project on housing for the poor.


Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy on Tuesday undertook a comprehensive review of infrastructure projects for Bangalore worth over Rs 1,000 crore, including a Rs 100-crore project on housing for the poor. He has issued directions to officials that these projects should get rolling by February 1.

In what amounted to some action on the development front, the chief minister along with Bangalore Urban district in-charge Minister R Ashok met the heads of various civic agencies for over two hours and discussed the status of both the ongoing projects and those in pipeline.

The tender process on new projects is set to be initiated on December 18. The upgradation of select stretches (130 km) of arterial and sub-arterial roads as concrete roads, eight grade separators and five multi-level car parking lots are the other notable projects.


Speaking to reporters, the chief minister said he has taken stock of the infrastructure projects that are in the pipeline and the additional requirements. Three grade separator projects have been cleared for Central assistance under JN-NURM, and another five are awaiting approval, he said. Minister Ashok said that the project was being forwarded with suitable corrections (as had been sought by Malleshwaram residents).

A BMP press release meanwhile noted that as regards the various issues raised by the public, the design of the Malleshwaram Circle Underpass is reoriented to accommodate the traffic flow from Margosa Road into the underpass .

INFRASTRUCTURE WORKS IN THE PIPELELINE

*Slum improvement: The Rs 100-cr project will provide for housing, roads and electricity supply in 31 slums in the city. The housing component envisages the construction of a total of 5,000 houses.

*Grade separators at Malleshwaram Circle, R V Teachers College junction and Tagore Circle (Rs 43 cr).

*Grade separators at BTM Layout 16th Cross, South end Circle, Maharani’s College Circle, Kanakapura Road, Lalbagh West Gate junction (Rs 130 cr). The project reports are awaiting nod for Central assistance.

*Some locations identified for 10 more grade separators are: JC Road (Bharat Talkies), KR Circle, Tumkur Road, Mysore Road Circle to Jnanabharathi junction and Town Hall.

*Making concrete roads of select arterial and sub arterial roads. Measures 170 km in length, at an estimated cost of Rs 135 crore.

*Storm water drain (four valleys) remodelling project. Ongoing since April 2005 at a cost of Rs 648 cr.

*Three multi-level car parking lots at K R Market, Majestic and Siddaiah Road. Cost not specified yet.
