BANGALORE: To cover a stretch 1.8 kilometre on this road, you have to cross 14 road humps bringing down the vehicle to a slow speed every time. Senior citizens and pregnant women are the worst affected lot commuting on the road, even though it was asphalted a month ago.

The Sultanpalya Road connecting Dinnur Main Road upto Goutham College bus-stop stretching to 1.8 kms has 14 speed breakers. The open drains along the side of the road pose challenge to pedestrians, who cross them almost dancing. The area does not have basic amenities.

There is no regular water supply, no vaccination programmes for stray dogs and the list grows. The area houses people from all walks of life, besides housing a number of tenants and bachelors residing in pent rooms. Many tenants have now decided to vacate the area.

“We have written to the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) several times complaining of lack of civic amenities. Recently, a stretch of road which was asphalted, also created hurdles. The unscientific speed breakers, erected on every cross-roads have become the biggest bottlenecks,” said local resident and a member of District Consumer Forum S U Razvi.

If this was the plight of the main road, the cross-roads have never seen any civic works. The road conditions at 3rd and 5th Main of Sultanpalya, Karnataka Housing Board Road and few cross-roads at Kanakadasnagar need urgent attention.

According to another local resident Santosh Kumar, the open drains are stagnant, posing threat to the health of local residents. “Few months ago, a person died in Adinagar from Chikungunya and people here are scared as the drains are becoming the breeding places for mosquitoes,” he said.

Above all, residents here prefer borewell water, as the supplied tap water has no fixed time,” he added. The residents have now written to the Chief Minister and BMP Commissioner K Jairaj to fulfil their demands.
