BETL: Elevated to a positive place

Bangalore: The Hosur Road elevated expressway project looks to be making rapid progress.
But the status of two measures that could significantly reduce congestion during the period of construction is not clear.
One relates to the road connecting Attibele to Sarjapur Road, which if properly asphalted, would help divert heavy vehicles away from the stretch from Attibele junction to the Silk Board junction on Hosur Road.
This road is the PWD’s responsibility. The second issue is the opening of the Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor’s peripheral road between Hosur Road and Bannerghatta Road, which again could divert a lot of traffic from Hosur Road.
As for work related to the expressway, a National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) official said 30 piles (foundations for pillars) had been done.
The official said the entire drain and service road work, as also the widening of the main road up to the drain, would be complete by January.
This could provide more space for traffic. The casting yard too is said to be ready. The yard will be used to build the expressway portions, which would then be transferred to the site and fitted on to the pillars.
WORK STAGE
Service roads: Of the 10 km to be done, 2 km opened to traffic. Eight km are in progress. Expected to be complete by January.
Drains: 10 km completed. Expected to be fully done by January.
Elevated expressway: 30 piles (foundations for pillars) done.
