BANGALORE: After having limited success with the multi-level car parking (MLCP) lots in the City, Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) is thinking of providing them on a smaller scale.

Further, these would be automated lots and would be available at the point of demand.

BMP’s MLCP lots on K G Road, J C Road and Magrath Road are designed to meet the parking demand of a larger area.

But the city police have not banned road side parking around these facilities which has led to under-utilisation of the facility.

For example, parking area opposite Sukhsagar Mall in Majestic witnesses a huge parking traffic while BMP’s MLCP on K G Road goes almost empty.

The civic body is now thinking of providing MLCP opposite Sukhsagar Mall with a capacity of 50-75 cars.

BMP’s infrastructure expert H Rajasimha told this website's newspaper that it would have lifts to take the cars to the parking slots in upper levels.

The cylindrical structure would have 3-4 levels with radial slots and the cars would be lifted from the centre at ground level.

However, the financial and technical details are yet to be prepared.

Rajasimha said that such systems would provide parking solutions right at the place it is needed.

These compact MLCPs would also come up on Dickenson Road near Manipal Centre, Russel Market, Commercial Street and opposite City Market.

Each of these units would cost about Rs 4 crore and could be taken up on build-operate-and-transfer basis.

The user tariff would be the same as the cost of parking in Forum Mall or Garuda Mall.
