BANGALORE: The city is getting colder by the day with temperatures falling by a degree each for the past few days. The city recorded a low of 14.6°C on Dec 2.
Incidentally, temperatures have not been exceptionally low this year when compared to last year. However, the chill factor is higher this year due to the monsoon winds. Says Dr M B Raje Gowda, Head of Agrometeorology Department, GKVK, “The chill is due to the lowering temperature coupled with North-East monsoon winds from the Bay of Bengal, which carries a little moisture.”
He also warned that the temperature may reduce upto 10 to 11 degrees in the first and second week of January, following which there will be an inversion and temperatures will go up. “The winds will continue through December, but the speed will reduce in January, which may bring the chill down,” he added.
