Residents of lane 87 off Richmond Road are seeing red at Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation’s (BMTC) move to shift its bus stop right to the entrance of the road.

Residents of lane 87 off Richmond Road are seeing red at Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation’s (BMTC) move to shift its bus stop right to the entrance of the road.

The residents in a release complained that BMTC’s decision to have its bus-stop at the entrance of the road is a grave traffic hazard and causing serious inconvenience not only to the residents but commuters also.

Bottleneck

Whenever a bus stops, access to the road is totally blocked. This is causing traffic bottleneck.

Moreover, commuters both boarding and alighting from the bus have to avoid cars and motorbikes coming in and out of the road, the residents complained.

The bus stop was previously located in front of Karnataka State Haj Committee building and it was the right place, they noted. Despite highlighting the problem to the traffic police and BMTC officials, nothing has been done so far, they stated.

To be shifted

When contacted, BMTC Divisional Traffic Officer (Technical) Vijay C said that the Corporation has taken note of the problems being faced by the residents and that the bus stop will be shifted shortly.

Bangalore Mahanagara Palike has agreed to provide a permanent bus shelter for the area and the location of the new bus stop will be decided based on the traffic police’s advice.‘Shift BMTC bus stop back’
