Residents demand train halt at Bangalore East

BANGALORE: The inconvenience which the residents of Bharatinagar, near Cox Town were facing till date was brought out in the form of protest on Sunday morning.

The residents, who were protesting for a reservation counter and the stoppage of two local trains - Lalbagh and Brindavan Express, stopped a train at the station as well.

N S Ravi, a member of Bharatinagar Resident Forum said that it is very inconvenient for the senior citizens to ply to and fro from the Cantonment Railway Station at night, as the autorickshaw drivers harass the people and charge exorbitant prices.

‘‘We are demanding for the stoppage of the trains here, because there are a large number of people travelling from this area. We have complained to the local police also, but nothing has been done till date. Thus, we are forced to take such measures,’’ he said.

The residents also grieve that there is no reservation counter at the station and people, especially the senior citizens, are forced to go to the Cantonment or the City Railway Station. ‘‘It is very inconvenient for us. This station does not have counters to cater to the passenger needs,’’ said Surendar R, a resident.

‘‘With the increasing population, the railways should take strong measures to look into the grievances of the people and ensure that the trains stop at this station. This will also ease the traffic congestion in the city and reduce the exploitation which the people are facing from the auto drivers,’’ said Pradeep Mudaliyan.

If all the trains are stopped in all the stations, express train will become passenger train. Residents of Bangalore East are too greedy and producing unaccountable reasons for stopping the train. There are so many other trains which stops at Bangalore East. They can use that. Why they want already slowed down superfast express lalbagh and brindavan to stop in Bangalore East?

What railways can do is they can run feeder small DMU trains such as the one running between Bangalore and Chikkaballapur. People can reach the nearby station from which Brindavan/Lalbagh express such as cantonment and then catch up Brindavan/Lalbagh express. Otherwise already slowed down superfast express will become passenger trains.

Railways can run feeder trains such as DMUs running between Bangalore and Chikkaballapur between whitefield and Bangalore station. People who wants to catch up Brindavan/Lalbagh or any other train can use this to reach Bangalore City / Cantonment to catch up trains they want. Otherwise already delayed trains will get delayed further. This is the case with Tippu express running between Bangalore and Mysore. People of Mandya/Channapatna/Ramnagar etc.. wants Tippu express to stop in those stations. This is the only non-stop train which reaches Bangalore in 2hrs 15 mins. But, if they do so, it will take 3 hrs and there will be no non-stop train (forget shatabdhi which is not for common man).
