The State government has finally decided in favour of Namma Metro.

The government in its order issued on November 15 has said a clear no to any change in the Metro alignment on Mahakavi Kuvempu Road and CMH Road, as has been demanded by local shopowners and residents and has directed the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) to go ahead with its work.

With this, owners of all shops and residential buildings on these roads will have to give away their properties.

“We will shortly initiate land acquisition process in these two places. On CMH Road, work on shifting of utility lines will be taken up from Monday,” BMRCL Managing Director V Madhu told Deccan Herald.

Kuvempu Road starts from West of Chord Road Junction and ends at Devaiah park.

Assets to be acquired

Properties will be acquired between Navrang theatre and Devaiah Park. CMH Road starts from Adarsh theatre and ends near Chinmaya Mission Hospital. Properties will be acquired along some stretches on these roads.

Owners of properties that were identified for acquisition, had raised a hue and cry against acquiring their properties. They had demanded change in Metro alignment so that their properties would be left out. BMRCL had identified 145 properties on Kuvempu Road and 41 on CMH Road. In all 621 properties will be acquired for the project across the City.

Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, who had visited CMH Road recently, had kept his decision pending all these days.

But the government has finally decided to clear all hurdles in the way of Metro.

Larger interest

The order, which was approved by Chief Minister on Wednesday, said: “In the larger interest of people, it is not necessary to change the alignment of Metro in any area including CMH Road.”

The government’s decision will help BMRCL to expedite its work on ‘Reach 1’, a seven-km stretch between BRV Parade Grounds and Byappanahalli.

Elevated track

It is an elevated track which will have seven stations. BMRCL has already taken up Geo Physical Survey here to identify the depth at which the piers have to be laid.

The plan is to start the work on ‘Reach 1’ by December-end and complete it by 2008.
