BANGALORE: Bangalore Habba is back albeit with a slight change, keeping with the name change made on Suvarna Karnataka, it is ‘Bengalooru Habba’ this time.

The Habba being presented by the Artistes’ Foundation for the Arts (AFFA) will be held in the City from December 3 to 10.

Speaking at a press conference held to announce the launch of the Habba, the orgnisers claimed that the event this year will be on a much larger scale, with a budget of about Rs 400 crores.

AFFA trustees, Nandini Alva and Padmini Ravi addressed the press conference.

Other participating members present were Munira Sen of Madhyam, Vimala Rangachar of Crafts Council; Kiran Seth, Spic Macay; Lalitha Ubhyakar, Devanandan Ubhayakar Trust; Evelin Hust, Director, Max Mueller. Airtel is the title sponsor of the Habba.

“This is the first time that we will hold the events in coordination with both the government and the non-government organisations. This year, we plan to reach out to all sections of the society through the Habba, be it the underprivileged sections, the youth or children. There will be many more events this year and will be better spread out around Bangalore,” said Padmini Ravi.

Organisations such as Voices, Crafts Council, Madhyam, Max Mueller Bhavan will participate in the event with craft melas, street plays, tribal art shows.

To celebrate the Suvarna Karnataka festival, the event this year will showcase Suvarna Bengalooru Habba, which will have a book fair, art, sculptor and crafts display, and ‘Karnataka Arts - A 50 year History’ with Jnanpitha awardees’ literary works which include works of Girish Karnad, Kuvempu, Bendre, Shivram Karanth and Masthi Venkatesh Iyengar.

There will also be a series of pre-habba events which will include classical music, dance and lecture demonstrations for students across 30 schools and colleges in the city between November 15 and 30, which will include events in government schools.

Mega events will also be held ranging from popular classical dance concerts, fashion extravaganzas, rock and jazz performances and a Bollywood night where popular Bollywood stars Malaika Arora, Kailash Kher and others will perform.
