Another plea to ease chaotic Hosur Road

Another plea to ease chaotic Hosur Road
The Times of India

Bangalore: “We get up as early as 4.30 am. We finish cooking and leave home at about 6.15 am. We reach work at 9 am. In the evenings, we leave workplace at 5.15 but return home often at 9 pm or beyond,’’ says Aruna Newton, an employee of Infosys. This was her reply to a query on the condition of Hosur Road.
Aruna was part of a large group of women IT employees who met deputy chief minister B S Yediyurappa on Tuesday to urge him to improve the traffic situation on Hosur Road. Later, the group also met industries minister Katta Subramanya Naidu and BMP commissioner K Jairaj.
Last week, the group had met chief minister H D Kumaraswamy with the same issue and suggested that the connecting roads to Hosur Road be strengthened.
The deputy CM ordered a spot inspection to ease these supporting roads.
According to the women, improving the connecting roads, especially NICE’s peripheral road, could reduce 45% of the traffic on Hosur Road.
“The BJP government is associated with some prestigious projects like the Golden Quadrilateral. We feel that they will take this issue seriously as they have done a lot of good work on infrastructure development,’’ said Aruna.
According to her, Hosur Road is built to take 80,000 passenger car units in a day, but is today taking 1.2 lakh passenger car units. “While work on the elevated road is on, freeing connecting roads could reduce the burden on Hosur Road,’’ Aruna told TOI.
Opening the NICE Road was one of their key demands. Here, the government needs to acquire about 400 sq metres of land.
Once this is done, it is believed that a majority of traffic moving towards Bannerghatta, Vijayanagar and Jayanagar can be diverted on to this road.
The group added that the road near Attibele that connects with Sarjapur Road needs to be completed up to Bommasandra.
So also the road near Naganathapura and Kudlur. Once these are done, these roads could take a lot of the Hosur Road traffic going towards Sarjapur Road.
