The ambiti-ous Greater Bangalore will translate into greater expenditure. The proposed Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike with its seven CMCs, one TMC and 111 villages, will just need to augment its revenue to bridge the gaps in infrastructure.

At a preliminary meeting of the senior BMP officials and CMC commissioners held in the City on Tuesday, a proposal to divide the Greater Bangalore area into eight zones was mooted. While, another proposal to set-up three ranges for better co-ordination was also examined.

According to BMP officials, a good number of properties in the CMC areas have either not been assessed or the tax collection has been poor. While, smaller issues like the control over schools and hospitals in the CMCs are also to be determined.

“Many building violations, tax evasion are common in the peripheral areas of the City as the development has been haphazard. We are also assessing the requirement of additional staff by examining the existing staff strength. We will interact with the various agencies to work out better service modules to eliminate the disparities in infrastructure,” said BMP’s joint commissioner (administration) Venkatramana Naik.
