Drive against autos over display boards

Drive against autos over display boards

After the twoday special drive against autorickshaws ferrying more than six schoolchildren, the City traffic police have now launched a drive against auto drivers plying without display boards behind drivers seats.

The police have so far booked over 220 cases against such drivers. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic, East) M A Saleem said that the drive is to identify unlicensed autorickshaws in the City. He said the display board system was introduced a few months back after a series of complaints from members of the public following harassment by drivers. The display system was also meant to prevent drivers from indulging in illegal activities.

However, it has been brought to the notice of the police that several autos are plying without the display boards. This is clearly in violation of rules, said Saleem.

Meanwhile, the traffic police have booked cases against 367 auto drivers during the two-day drive against autos ferrying more than six children.

The police should also have a drive against autos that have not passed the emission test or are making too much noise.
