BANGALORE: In a first of its kind ‘funeral’, the tree lovers on Thursday protested the felling of healthy rain tree by carrying out mock procession of tree branches left at the spot.

Over hundred tree lovers and local residents gathered in front of Dr Ramesh’s house to pay homage to the dead tree.

They marched through the service roads along the side of West of Chord Road in Rajajinagar 1st Block. Candles were lit, garlands were placed on dead roots of the rain tree.

Interestingly, Dr Ramesh’s house has a garden full of trees which shows his interest towards greenery. It was his hard belief in Vaastu, which caused the tree its life for standing in front of his main door.

However, Dr Ramesh was not available for comment, his mother Parvatamma, accused the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) for acquiring the three-foot land of theirs to build a drain next to the tree.

Apparently, the Tree Officer from BMP Krisha D Udpudi has booked a case against the house owner Dr Ramesh.

Speaking to this website's newspaper, he said that an FIR has been filed against the owner, and he will be charged for misleading and bringing down a healthy tree.

“We are dedicated to save the trees in Banalore. People should be alert in such cases. If people notice any tree felling incident they can call BMP control room,” he added.

Call to place a complaint on 22485317 or 22978888.
