BANGALORE: The long-pending construction of the Peripheral Ring Road (PRR) has now moved a step ahead.

The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) has woken up to the problems of increasing traffic congestion in the City and notified the lands for the road.

The final notification of land for the northern part of the PRR has been completed under Section 4 (2) of the Land Acquisition Act 1894, for construction of road between Tumkur Road-Old Madras Road and Hosur Road.

“BDA will spend Rs 3500 crore on the road. The work will begin from May. The agency has not taken any money from the Government at any stage for the construction of the PRR,” BDA Commissioner M K Shankarlinge Gowda told this website's newspaper.

The money being collected is the development fee imposed on the land adjacent to the PRR. Additional funds will be collected if required, he added.

Gowda added that the project will be completed in two phases.

The construction of the first phase, the northern part, which connects to the NICE Road, will be completed soon, as the work is in progress.

He also asserted that the road will connect to a part of Bangalore/Mysore Infrastructure Corridor and intersect the north and south portions.

“The road will ensure easier movement of vehicles, since heavy vehicles will not be allowed into the City. It is important to speed up the work to ease traffic,” he said.
