The Hindu

BANGALORE: About 165 traffic signals in the city will be upgraded in the next three months as part of the Bangalore Traffic Improvement Project (B-TRAC), Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) M.N. Reddi has said.

Mr. Reddi told presspersons here on Tuesday that new traffic signals would come on standard poles. These would have LED bulbs aided by a 2-KW UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply) units.

"LED bulbs will consume less power and has less maintenance cost. UPS systems will be used to facilitate operation of the signal lights even during power cuts," he said.

The city police were considering the use of vehicle-activated systems at all traffic signals to help in the management of traffic, especially when vehicular movement is less. Use of a corridor synchronisation system at 10 important places was also being considered. The system, now experimented on J.C. Road, synchronised traffic signals in a corridor, he said. The traffic police had booked 440 cases for helmet rule violation, he said.

Helmate Compulsary in Bangalore

Starting from 1st NOV 06, the police in Bangalore has started enforcing the helmate rule religiously. Many news papers have published of police collecting lakhs as fine. I'm proud of Bangalore police enforcing the law. But ? Am I proud of Bangalore police ? Remember our beloved CM's son & honorable ex-prime minister's grand-son ? Where is he ? I guess should be driving his Hummer ready to beat some more poor hotel staff. So the law of land is for the poor janata of the land & not for the masters ?
